The nuts are for sale, the advice on the board is for free, but if you do not heed it, it can cost you your life.

It says:

DEAD SLOW
5KM OF SHARP BENDS AHEAD
OVERSPEEDING IS DEATH IN PROGRESS

Ja Murphs, but I did not include photos of all the African villages I went through in the process.                 :imaposer:

Some random photos along the way to Lilongwe.

I would really like to know what these are. They look like duplex flats with no windows and a very prominent chimney to each one. Anyone know what these are?

This happens so regularly that it is a wonder that the road mortality rate is not 100 times more. When ever I witnessed this, I just fell back and gave them space to kill each other without involving me.

This Toyota's wheels were running crab-like, but the most amazing thing was how the body was going up and down and the side to side all at once. I was expecting it to come off at any stage. The occupants must have taken sea sickness tablets.

When ever you come across tree branches lying in the road, it is a warning of a accident scene or broken down vehicle in the road ahead. Thinking of this and all the times that I came acroos this during this trip, it is amazing that there are still trees left in the countries I visited.

In this case, a tanker had broken down in the road. It was being overtaken by another truck, when the second truck broke down while overtaking.

Another broken down truck. It must have just happened, because there were no branches in the road yet.

And another...............

Some Gopro photos.

The distance from Luwawa Forest lodge to Lilongwe is about about 220km.

I came across this scene. (Sorry the photo is a bit far away). A Colt bakkie had rolled and it was quite squashed. Tow-in story for sure, I thought.

Later that day, I saw the same Colt bakkie being driven into Lilongwe. The driver had his head out of the window, as he could not sit upright in the bakkie due to the reduced roof height. I was unfortunately in a traffic circle going in another direction and could not get a photo off.

...so..ah, how many photos did you take on this trip...?

:p

Quite a few thousand, have not yet gotten to them all.

Got to Lilongwe. Found a garage, filled up and got something to drink. It was very hot. Parked in the shade behind the garage and phoned Rhys Davies (our good friend from Illovo Cottage) as I was going to visit them for a few days before heading back south.

It was about 3 o'clock and I informed Rhys that I was leaving Lilongwe shortly on my way to them in Blantyre. No problem. Little did I know how long it was going to take me to get to Blantyre and what time I was to arrive there. Apparently, Gaille was quite upset that Rhys did not try to persuade me to overnight in Lilongwe before driving through.

Anyway, I was non the wiser, at that stage. Blissfully ignorant of what was to come......................

I was approached by some South Africans whilst quenching my thirst in the shade. They were in Malawi investigating a South African plane that went down in Malawi. We had a nice chat and then I was on my way.

Traffic is heavy in Lilongwe. Saw quite a lot of armed military clad men and women around.
