Nice Jaco.
Give us your opinion on the 800!
I promise not to get upset if you bad mouth it
It would be nice to hear how they handled it considering they were ridden like rentals!
Popi, I really, really like the bike! Yes, they were slightly pimped with Hyperpro springs at the front and half the Touratech catalogue - bashplates, headlight protectors, mirrors, tailpacks, etc, etc, etc.
The engine is more than powerful enough and if one spends some time and money on the suspension I could easily own one if the HP2 is abducted by celery-eating aliens.
The downside is punctures for the tube tyres but get this: Of the 50+ riders who each did almost 2000 km there were less than a handful of punctures. And you should've seen the 'smileys'! The tyres were Metzeler Karoos that did very well in mixed conditions and I think the tubes were made from unobtainium or something similar. Hectic.
I cannot see myself going back to a 1200GS again. In fact, a 650 XChallenge is looking more and more appealing. I hate to say it, but I think LS has chosen wisely for a change. After buying the XC, he has mysteriously stopped his impulse buying of bikes every year.
Coincidence? I think not. All things being equal lighter is better.
As for 'Lewensgevaarlik'? I don't know if the aftermarket springs transformed the bike into something totally different, but I never experienced any significant tankslapper - and that included rough roads at between 100 and 120 km/h.
So the short answer: I was really impressed by the Lewensgevaarlik.
But then again I'm also a known Fortuner fan.
PS: The smiley photo is not of my bike during the trip. But still, no puncture. WTF?!
