Kaokoland: I was tired of reading about it!!!

Classic RR! Well done!

Had a good chuckle at "the nicotine monster hard at work: "Feed me Seymour!".......I would never ever have left without stocking up on the coffin nails first. That's almost as bad as being stuck out in the middle of nowhere with 10 packs of smokes, but nothing to light them with!

That road around Brandberg is KAK! My radiator fan sheared off it's mountings on that road. It honestly got to a point where I was waiting for various bits 'n pieces to start falling off. Battery packed in a day later on the way to Solitaire - dead short. I suspect that "that road" was the cause of that failure.

You're right about running out of water to the north of there. A dutch couple got stranded there a few years ago, and hubby had died before someone stumbled onto them.

Anway - thanks for the report. Fantastic trip!

As no book deals are forthcoming I am finding myself at work ...and I am not liking it :dousing:

Family and friends are also making demands on my time as they haven't seen me for a month...nice to know they care but after the solo hop in Nam it all feels like a bit much. Too many things happening, to many people to appease. I can feel myself slipping into "moerige bliksem" default setting once again. Reckon I will be ready for another big trip by December at this rate...

Thank you all once again for reading and all the compliments.

PS: Someone asked for pics of the damage to the bike. Sorry but headstay was already at 2StrokeDan for repair (Dankie Danie :thumleft:) before I could take pics. Here it is after Danie gave it some luv (he really cannot help himself when it comes to any Yamaha).

Last night I added some additional bracing and then its painting and refitting. After that a service and then I intend to once and for all solve the annoying rear indicator issue.

PS: Sam, I can conjure fire with sheer willpower alone if I need to light a cigarette  >:D

Once you have eaten of the Namcake it will be a lifelong condition. Symptoms start when maps are read in the loo :deal: :lol8: ;)

Or having a Nam tourist guide always next to your bed.

Baie dankie vir 'n lekker lees RR Stroker. Ek het die Kaokoland 'n hele paar keer die afgelope paar jaar gery maar ongelukkig net met 4x4're. Sal nou net my regte wapen moet kies. Die 990 of die XR650L.

Rickus hoeveel is julle wat gaan ?

Vat die XR... without a doubt. As jy VZP gaan skip dan dalk die 990...vat net genoeg sous. Apparently drink daai 990 bikes soos alkoholiste by n troue met n gratis bar as jy hulle in die sand ry.

What a fantastic read!! I'm really looking forward to the next one.....

3...2 x 950 en 1 x 990......die 990 het darem n groot Safari tenk op, maar ek en my broer moet maar sous saam ry

Lekker man. Jip was met my 990 nou af Gemsbok Rally toe. Ry oor 160 en kyk hoe ver raak die pompe van mekaar af. Geniet julle trip man.

Reserved judgement till the end...

All I can say, knowing where you come from, awesome

You beat a few devils, scored a humdinger of a trip.

-5Deg my gat.

As I have never done Nam in winter I erred on the side of cauting and went looking for thermal sleeping bag liners. The very helpfull gentleman (shyster) at Cape Union Fart assured me that this thin travel liner will add 15Deg and he easily swindled the R680 from my wallet like taking candy from a baby. twatwaffle.

15Deg extra my gat. More like 2...maybe :dousing:

A good friend (can't remember who), outdoor kit guru of note once told me that a -15 rating does not mean you are comfy and snugly, it only means that you won't  die  :p

Wait, I remember now who he was  - it was you  :imaposer:

The sincerity of your writings are humbling - van NG psalms uit volle bors tot 'n vetkoek anerkant VzP  :pot: baie mooi storie - groot ballas (en big respect) vir solo adventure

Beautiful broer... If there is no book deal upcoming I have lost my faith in humanity... maybe a trip somewhere will restore it ;)

Once again thank you for all the compliments :)

I cannot remember if it was this ride report or another thread but people were wondering about the Crowther Trail and general motorcycle access in the Palmwag concession. Attached is the Palmwag leaflet I got handed when I made similar enquiries when I was there. May be usefull to someone.

Hahaha lag ek nou lekker. Klink soos iets wat jy sal sê.
Luister pluister, as my pa weer reg is moet ons n trippie doen. Daai man gaan wil ry en ons gaan moet probeer by bly... :thumleft:

Ja teen die tyd dat jou pa weer op die been is gaan hy erg throttle koors he.

Begin dink maar solank waar jy will gaan ry...eks keen :thumleft:. Kies net n reguit pad...jou pa sukkel so bietjie lately met draaie :pot:

In case somebody missed this ride report, always thought this one deserved a place in the Roll of Honour section. Thank you Stroke Her, really enjoyed this one, hope you are still riding.

Thanks Plaasseun, haven't seen this RR yet.  Definitely one of the best out there !!

Don’t let this report fool you into thinking riding there is easy!!! If things go south there and you are alone, it may very quickly become life or death.

Lekker Stroke her!!!
