The bike stuck in the river wasn't part of our group. Bike travellers that were met along the way. :thumleft:

That river is a contributory of the Kunene. The area received good rain the days before!

Day 4: Kunene Road - Meeting the Locals

The Ovahimba, or more commonly known Himba, are the indiginous tribe to Koakoland, or nowadays Kunene region. :thumleft:

They originated from Angola, and were part of the Herero tribe.

They moved from Angola to Namibia in the 16th century. :thumleft:

Only the women "paint" themselves in the distinctive red ochre, which is mixed with butter, and applied after slightly heated in smoke.

The Herero tribe moved south from the Kaokoland, due to a bovine epidemic in the early 1900. A few woman in traditional Herero dress, were seen in the Kaokoland. :thumleft:

Dis ń absolute voorreg om hierdie rit mee te maak! ;D

Ons ken die area heel goed, maar kan nie wag om dit weer op bikes te doen nie.  Dit sal my eerste keer wees wat ek 'n bike self daar gaan ry.
