Lovely RR Bessie  :thumleft:

As I was reading it and looking at the pics a few things fell into place for me... then it hit me!

I remember meeting you and Wouter at Mukambi in Zambia. The two of you were heading out to go map somewhere in Angola, but your bike was broken and you were waiting for a fuel pump if I remember correctly. Think it was a BMW..?

that's absolutely right...

i don't recall seeing any other bikers there...???

I wish I was on a bike, I was in a cage.   :ricky:

I was working at a site near Kaoma and popped in to say hi to Jacques and Linda on my way to Lusaka.

Great to see you here too.  :thumleft:

Beautiful part of the world  :thumleft:

Still the best trip I've done on my bike!  (Although we didn't do Van Zyl's, we went just south of it into the Kaokoveld and came out again at Palmwag.  And I was the only one on bike, the rest were in 4x4's)

I went far too fast through it though.

I vow to go back with a decent camera and forget about the planned schedule and covering distance etc and just experience it properly, instead just a beautiful blur on either side of the track.

I must admit elephants and thick sand make a nerve wracking combination - something my mates in their 4x4's just never understood.

In the Kuwaribshlucht I was riding through fresh urine, broken branches, wet dung etc in sand so thick that you had no choice but to follow the wheel tracks in the sand.  You couldn't easily climb out of them because the middlemannetjie was so high and the sand so soft.  The GPS had notices of "danger aggressive elephants" - and I was on my own, way ahead of the bakkies and still learning how to ride k's and k's of thick sand!  All I needed was to ride into an elephant because I would probably just have fallen over right in front of the damn thing and died of terminal bowel control loss!

Totally unique experience - scary but awesome - also on my to do ... again list :thumleft:

We are definitely doing this trip again mext year... hopefully with more time too.

You guys must come with!

Awesome trip - we were up there in November on a couple of 1200's so we had to stick to the more major roads - although we camped at Ondongo one night too! I would love to get a 400/650 and do the route you all did - inspiring pics!

Back on the bucket list!

I regret having to turn back out of the Kumib River.. it would be nice to  have an extra day to do that stretch to Puros instead of the 'main' road.

and also... the Doros Crater route to Rhino Ugab Camp.

it was just to hot in the afternoons to do these stretches... but if one has extra two or three days... one can do them early morning.

The time of the year is very important if you want to survive the extreme heat - we went in Sept and was hot but not boiling
