I first saw the KX500AF and Honda CR500AF a couple of years ago on the internet. And I thought to myself "Bliksem"
They cost around 21000 USD. That's close to R300 000.
I have read a couple of builds where guys did the build themselves.
So last week by chance I came across a 1996 KX500 and the following day I stumbled on a 2007 KX250F that has motor damage. Surely this must be fate and the universe telling me that I should build it.
So I drove and picked up the bikes. My wife is not very impressed. She says I have enough toys... Really? can one really have too many toys?
Just the fact that I found a KX500 is amazing. They are seriously scarce nowadays.
So here is my plan. This is going to be quite a long build. I am going to firstly build the KX250F motor and install it in the frame. Then sell only the motor as a running unit. The reason for building it into the frame is so that the buyer knows they are buying a running motor. I will get more for it that way and can keep the missus happy by keeping costs down.
I am putting the KX 500 rolling chassis up for sale. I have already taken the motor and all other parts out that I will need. I think the KX500 should go quick as it is one of the later models with the USD front suspension.
So here we go.
