Plan was to do a quick service on the bikes when we got to PE (clean air filters and maybe do a quick oil change) , but after Baksteen and his toppie "forced" the 3rd Windhoek down my gullet there was no way that was going to happen.... so we retired to braai area to quaff a few more (just to make sure those first one's were actually as good as they tasted) and reminisce about the epic 8 days we had spent on the road (was day 10 for Baksteen)
So next morning we started off a bit late, went for a greasy breakfast a little farmstall and then made out seperate ways home
My idea was to ride up towards Grahamstown, then through Hogsback towards BarkleyEast and then decide from there what I was going to do
... but the weather wasn't really playing it's part and when it started p!ssing down I decided to turn inland and try find some desert to ride through
There were some tar roads up towards Graaff-Reinet that I had been wanting to ride on 2 wheels for a long time
No bookings, no real plans and I had 2 days to get back to Joburg turned the red donkey away from the clouds
Skys cleared and one thing I do know .... I found another part of the world I have go to return to on my Brutale. Eventually landed up twisting and turning my way up to Gariep Dam for an overnight stop .... I reckon about 800 kays of slab on the Fugly, and I loved every bit of it
And then it was the last 700 kays from there home. Froze my nuts off into a stiff headwind to Phillipolis , Trompsburg, Edenburg ... and then into Bloem for a hot cup of coffee.
And then I was pap... was going to take the scenic route from there, but the previous day's ironbutt and the cold just caught up with me so I hit the N1 all the way home.
