Hi Guys,
I have spent quite some time on Google to find out how long a KLR clutch should last under "normal" riding conditions, but found no real answers. Some guys say up to 80000km and others say it has to be replaced every 12k km.
I have a '09 KLR with 18k km on, and although it always engaged late, it now engages alarmingly late. The cable is adjusted correctly, (there is about 2mm play on the lever on handlebars before it starts pulling the clutch lever on the engine). My issue is if i start putting pressure on the lever and the cable becomes taunt, there is about 1mm before the clutch completely disengages and i can idle in gear without moving, and it is getting very difficult to pull away with this little play. I am also concerned that it does not engage completely, it feels a little underpowered lately..
I spoke to a KLR mechanic and he said that the clutch is not adjusted through the cable, but that pin that goes into the engine can be set to engage/disengage in different places.
Any ideas on this? How can I check to see if my clutch is OK, and how long do they last? Let me say I do lots of tar (sadly) and some technical offroading, but nothing serious!
ThankS
