KTM 990 starter problem

I have a 2010 990 adv. It was cold recently and the bike did not want to start. Jumped it from a car battery and put it on a optimate overnight. Started. Then it again refused to start in the morning but now even refuses to start even with a jump from a good battery. The motor swungs once and then the ignition would re-switch with the FI light on momentarily and then it reverts to the oil and neutral lights. It has become progressively worse and now not even swinging the motor. Took the battery out and had it tested at battery center. Shows 12.3 V and takes a load. Starter motor? Is this something that a novice like me can remove?
