Day 2: Clarens - Lady Grey

We got up early in order to go have some coffee at the roastry in Clarens.

Lovely place with really good coffee. Daniel the barista is a guy who knows his trade and I wish he could get the opportunity to go to the national champs.

Was a pretty cold start to the day, but we couldn't wait to get back on the road.

I was still waiting on this so called pothole thing everyone was warning me about.  ???

The day started off perfectly with good music on the road and beautiful scenery. I was thinking to myself we really do live in a beautiful country.

Saw a lot of yellow road signs warning against potholes or ANC gate as someone spraypainted over them.

The ones from Hobhouse to Wepener weren't too bad, but then the fun started. I was dodging potholes from Wepener to Zastron.
Made me think about the movie Dodgeball - If you could dodge a pothole, you can dodge a ball!

Speaking of Hobhouse. as beautiful as our country is, it is sad to see the deterioration of small towns like Hobhouse, and Aberdeen.

We stopped for lunch in Zastron, and what a pityful but funny experience that was. There was no water in town so we could not order hot drinks. After confirming what was left of the cold drinks, we ordered food. A Hamburger and chicken and mayo sandwhich.

Still not sure whether it was chicken on the bread. The event was too traumatic to take pictures.

After lunch we headed off to Lady Gray for the second nights stay. After unpacking our stuff we went to get some supplies for the night. I decided to go bachelor style and spoiled myself with some good old fashoined Friday night food and beer.

Day 3: Lady Grey - Graaff Reinet

Once again it was a cold start. With plenty to see, we got going early.

As per usual all the clothing gets left under the duvet with the heated blanket on in order to warm up.

Haeted grips on, we drove to Burgersdorp where we had Breakfast at Hagenhuis next to the fire. Lovely place with a very unique bathtub

Had a wonderful day on the bike with a few stops to take in the countryside and some more pics of the bike.

Got to Karoo Rus in Graaff Reinet nice and early and went to explore the town on foot.

Exploring small towns on foot is quite nice as you get a sence of what it's all about.

Having felt the condition of the roads in Graaff Reinet on the bike, it was probably better to walk around.

After some sight seeing, I once agian could not help myself taking pictures of the bike.

Then  off to dinner at the very nice Polka restaurant.

Day 4: Graaff Reinet - Oudtshoorn

Decided to have fun and explora as much as possible on the way to Oudtshoorn.

After breakfast in Willowmore, we went on to Meiringspoort, Prince Albert, Over Swartber Pass en finally into Oudtshoorn where we stayed with friends

Surely some of the most beautiful places in the country, wish there was time to head down into Die Hel.

Day 5: Home

As they say - All good things come to an end. How I wish this wasn't the case here. could have spent much more time out in our beautiful country.

We headed to Calitzdorp where I had my final breakfast.

After leaving town and passing through Ladismith I realized that it was 76km to Barrydale, and we had a range of 74km according to the bike.
I decided to take a chance. At a frustrating 100km/h we cruised into Barrydale for fuel and coffee at the Country Pumpkin.

Had a final sausage roll for lunch and then back home over Du Toitskloof. Oh how I love the sight of my beloved Table Mountain.

Unpacked the bike and immediately washed it.

What a trip. Loved every second. Had time to think and deal with things, and spent much needed quality time with my wife.

Awesome! Nothing like a lekker long ride to get used ot your new steed.

Amazing how you can get on one of these bikes and hit the long road without a care in the world and you have no problems all the way home.

Did exactly the same about 2 months ago. Collected my GSA from another dog in Centurion. Rode to Bloem the Saturday. Slept at my boets place and then Sunday Bloem to East London. Wish i could do it all this weekend again!!!

Thanks for sharing your ride and many happy kilo's together on the new bike.
