If you do that you loose your 200% of the value of the bike that you paid in cash in order to get a Carnet to travel through Egypt

Jussie Schalk.

Sterkte daar.

I hope something changes and you can move forward one way or the other soon.

I've read various books, trip reports etc. and the reoccurring theme seems to be trouble in Egypt, and more specifically trouble getting out.
Yes they don't make it easy for bikers. Every one else can go but no bikers

Ja heng dan gaan ek 105 jaar out wees. Dit klink net soos in Moses se tyd

Dankie mater

Hi guys I have basically run out of time. Going south tomorrow as Visas and Carnets are expiring. Will have to work my way south towards the Sudan border as for the last 2 weeks I have tried all other options. Have done 15 000km to date and as they say “Tussen jou en my lê daar n berg Tafelberg” but between myself and the berg there is 15 000 km to do. So enjoy the ride as I have to be out of the country by 8/08/15

Sterkte jong, jy is 'n groot inspirasie vir baie!

Would you have an appetite to cross DRC east to west and continue up the West coast to Spain (or even Italy, there are ferries from Morocco)? You were considering Somalia, which I think is much more dodgy than that...

DRC i'll go back to any day. The rebels looks mean with their dark glasses but all you do is hand out cigarettes. I worked there and we never traveled without cartons of sportsman or matchbox (the 2 brands of cigarettes) Never felt threatened in the DRC despite hearing many horror stories. Still a lot of Belgium's living there.

Problem is, DRC is halfway back already and then there are the roads and the lack thereof! Higher up you sit with a lot more unrest, and it become more of a challenge to stay alive. All the way back and shipping the bike from SA might even work out cheaper, up North people hate the USA but love the USA Dollar bills too much......so I say Schalk can explore and have a lot more fun in Africa if he decide to come down on slightly a different route!

I for one would have visited Juba in South Sudan just to see how it has changed since South Sudan became a Country and Juba became the capital city. One place I have met so many well known South Africans, like 'Oom Sakkie van der Merwe', the pilot and at some stage he was on tv doing the Weather forecast. Many other, South Africans of every skill and trade you could think of were involved there at some stage or another, all of them living in tents on the shore of the fast flowing White Nile river!
