Ouens, moenie enige kans laat verbygaan om hierdie ongelooflike ou te ontmoet nie - and while you at it - koop sy wonderlike boek!

Hi Happyfeet thanks for the compliment and also thanks for having me. You and Andries are stars. Hope he gets better soon.

I just want to know if any of you out there know of a cargo or passenger ship from Cape Town to any of the South American countries where I can travel on with my bike. Ideally I would like to work on the boat. I am a qualified electrician and certainly there are maintenance work to be done on any ship. Alternatively how much will it cost if I am a paying customer. Destinations can be either Argentina or Brazil. Can any body help with information?

Schalk these ships are very selective....they normally recruit young people. South American ships that we saw sailing between Brazil and SA were all Spanish and the radio contact we made with them was always somehow fristrating as they were not fluent in English. All crew normally local employees.

I hope someone can link you up with a crew, but you shall probably have to go as a paying customer. If you were in CT you could visit the docs, make friends and enquire. Word of mouth type of thing....one of my friends got work on a righ by doing that

When I was in Port Said in Egypt they did not want to allow me in to the docs. Do you think they will allow me in CT.

Schalk they allowed Gideon and Mark, but keep in mind all of us have done the offshore survival course at ganger bay and been in and out of the docs. They will probably not allow you past the customs point which is not going to do you any favors.... sorry unfortunately I do not have any contacs in the harbour since Sam retired....with him it was rather easy as we used to visit the crew of the Polarstern polar recearch ice breaking ship. If you can find out where these guys hang out it will help as well....but sorry Schalk, wish I could be of help

Hey Schalk. Just spent a very pleasant evening reading your book cover to cover over a glass or 2 of red wine. ( OK ...maybe a bit more than 2 ;) )
What a trip you had . Looking forward to following your adventures further. Maybe one day when I'm big I'll give something like this a try

Kon nie die boek neersit nie :thumleft: Thoroughly enjoyed it. Took me placed i will probably never see...

Geluk met die boek en dankie. Die tweede keer sal ek hom mooi stadig en aandagtig deurlees :ricky:

Sad to say shimwells in Springs left springs and relocated to benoni boksburg area. Nice reeding. Catch up every day during lunch

Just finished reading your book, for the second time in case I missed something first time around.

Magic trip, and I like your down to earth style of writing. I still get a lump in my throat on the last page, so before the rest of you wait till you retire, don't, it may be too late.

Agreed on the good read. I thought I was the only one with a lump in my throat on that last page . Well done Schalk, hope you are selling lots and lots of books!
