Sunday was a planned ride, for no other reason than we wanted some dirt time.... Now this is not a ride report, but rather an insight into an unfortunate incident that could have had terrible results......
We had riden a 170km dirt loop and were on a short tarred section just outside Heidelburg when this incident occured. We were traveling at approx 135/140kph on a straight piece of tar. A truck became visible as it approached our road from a smaller side road. The driver stopped briefly, but edged forward as we approached. The lead rider (GussPorra) swerved to avaoid the potential disaster, however his brother (Manny Porra)who was right behind him grabed the breaks with much gusto! The ABS had been turned off owing to us being on dirt, and the front wheel simply locked up. From my side, all I saw was smake, dust and flames as the oil ignited on the tarr from the sparks given off by the head being ground on the surface.
Manny was not injured, apart from being a little dazed and bruised from his initial impact with mother earth...sadly the bike was damaged. A few pics of the event....
