MDM and a happy Escape!

After doing my very first dirt ride a week ago (30 kmâ??s), Misty and Malibu decided I needed a real ride, so they organized it. Iâ??ve been riding my bike for about 6 weeks now, so you can imagine I was a little nervous, especially as they told me we would be doing Breedtâ??s Neck, a dirt mountain pass.
Meeting time and place was arranged, and Escape volunteered to be our official guide/photographer.  Malibu and I left the house a little after 7 on a wet, cloudy, cool morning and headed out to the meet spot.  While filling up, Misty and Escape arrived and we were soon on our way.  We headed past Hartebeespoort Dam and soon turned onto dirt at the Skeerpoort turn-off.

A quick stop to do our tyres and get a few more tips and we were on our way. Malibu had just taught me to stand, on Sunday, so I tried itâ?¦. The next step in my learning curve, and it actually works.  GOOD STEP!  I have no real idea on the specifics of the route we rode, I was too busy trying not to fall off.  It was not long and Escape showed us the windy path going up the mountain.  â??We are going up thereâ? he casually remarked!  Phew!  It looked high from where we were.  Oh well!  Head up, stand up and ride it!  Thatâ??s all I could do!  Amazingly, we got to the top!  What an awesome view.  So worth the ride.

The reactions from the car drivers was very funny, we even got saluted!  Must have had something to do with the smiling Escape and 3 girls!

After a short stop, the DOWNHILL!  Ok, it took a while, but I got it!  I rode down, nicely!  By this time, standing was not an option, my legs said no more.  We rode around a vlei on the other side, the bush is so green and the views and scenery spectacular. I was now having the chance to relax and appreciate it as the dirt was perfect, no corrugations, rocks, sand or mudâ?¦ just gentle dirt.  I had ridden just under 100 kmâ??s of dirt.

We stopped and made contact with the hooligans on Julesâ??s ride and arranged to meet near Harties.  We arrived, ravenous, ordered lunch and a cold one and a short while later they arrived with much noise, joviality and mud.  And the biggest smiles you have ever seen. It was fantastic to swop stories and hear what the insane crowd does for fun.

I have to say that this was a fantastic day.  Iâ??m hooked on dirt riding.  Thanks Escape for a great route, super pics and riding nice for us.  Thanks Misty for the company and constant smile, we will be doing a lot more of this!
The part about the unhappy Escape is on Julesâ??s RR.  That was later!

Of course I was the lucky one with 3 chicks and 3 bikes for company.... and yes we must do it more often next year.
