After being woken up at 6 on Friday morning by my noisy neighbours, who partied right through the night, we decided to get up (seeing no snoozing was on the cards) and hit the road – but what better way to spend the day in any case!  :)

We decided to head towards Kroonstad – ultimately a Recce Ride to Rustic Riverside…

We did mainly gravel all the way to Steynsrus – via Heilbron, Koppies, Edenville, Lindley and then to Riverside – all of which were stunning gravel roads, although the road into Riverside at least provided eSKaPe with a little bit of a challenge (esp with a pillion) – it was a 12km twee spoor that got really rough in patches – at first we thought we were on the wrong road and just trekking over someone’s farm, but alas we got to our end destination – Rustic Riverside

It was close to lunch time now and we were both starved – we made our way to Kroonstad as it seemed this would be the only place we would get something to eat as all the little towns we passed were deserted being Easter Friday and after some lunch we made our way back to JHB on tar mainly as we left Kroonstad at 3pm and it was time to get home.

Yesterday morning we decided to head out towards Breedsnek – a road that we have travelled a few times before but just such lovely roads to ride that we don’t mind repeating the exercise. We didn’t take that many in-riding pics as I was closely on eSKaPe’s tail for a change – hehe

There and back we did plenty of gravel and the terrains were nice and varied – we even did a little sandy road (that led to a dead end and we had to make a u-turn!) – but the whole day we rode incident free and it was just a great trip all round.

We even went to have a look at Jules’ infamous water crossing, although we didn’t attempt it as there was no way I was towing eSKaPe out of there! Then we made our way back home all too soon – a great weekend, just too short!

  :ricky:
