I have had the privilege to not only attend the Mzansi international cycle race which is SA version of the Tour the France and basically the 'new Rapport tour' (just under another name and sponsorship's) but to work on my bike by carrying one of the cameraman (ETV) for 5 days starting at the Kruger gate and finishing at Monte Casino.
It was awesome to say the least, friendly people and team players which made one feel welcome. A real energetic spirit and a look behind the scenes. A lot of work that goes into something like this, it's far bigger as I have everer imagined and a lot of pressure on the cameraman and bikers. Think Bike was the 'all present reckless but good bike marshals' and by reckless I don't mean to ot: but really, some of these guys thought that it is a actual bike race and cam screaming past us on their Hyabussas, R1's and other performance bikes....its only a matter of time till you read of someone seeing his ass on a bike if this is their norm/style. However, a nice bunch of guys, I made a couple of friends on the 'hot spots and king of the mountains'
Robby Hunter made it home as the overall winner and he seems to be in a class of his own. I witnessed on the Witbank to Mamelodi stage how he managed to catch the leaders and close in on a gap of 8 seconds (huge) and won. He has also won a stage in the Tour the France (only SA I know of who has ever managed to do so)
Well I am not going to do a full story as I do not really know all the riders names. I just wanted to share a couple of pictures and please feel free to ask questions. I will try my best to answer - unfortunately going through a rough patch between contracts and do not have a lot of internet access but I will try to come back to the thread a couple of times.
Ok now for a couple of pictures:
Kruger Gate
My Triumph and another GS1150
And the boss with his beautiful 1100 RT
