Watching a little boy skipping rocks across the glacial crystal clear water.

I could not stop having a feeling of awe, feelings of how small mankind is to this beautiful and wild planet we call home.

I was on the only motorbike.  Just a few lifted Jeeps made it to the top.

I began talking with the Jeep folks, they were all friends from California, part of a Jeep club.  Some had driven the Jeeps from Cali, some hauled theirs on trailers.

If my notes are correct, the green Wrangler was on 37's, the black Wrangler on 40's.

And the silver, with the highest lift, a 6-link articulated lift, had some monster 44's.  One of the Jeeps was equipped with an iPad with a trail app, we were sitting at 11,937 feet of altitude.

After relaxing and talking for awhile, I decided it time to go back down in elevation, but not before stopping at one of the overlooks to photograph part of the track in the distance.  A Toyota FJ80 in the distance, on the way up.

A little further down in elevation, I stopped to photograph a waterfall.  I have some video footage I'll post later, if I can locate.

That's when I met the nice couple in the FJ80, they were from Missouri.  They had a lovely little pooch I just had to meet and get a big wet kiss from.  He was a stray dog that showed up on their porch in Missouri just a few months prior.  His hair was matted they told me like you wouldn't believe, he was dehydrated, malnourished, completely emaciated, and near death.  After a few vet clinic visits, a lot of effort in grooming, some food and water, this guy hit the jackpot and is living a good life.  I love hearing happy endings.

Nice trip, welcome back and I hope you keep on posting quickly and try and stay out of trouble :thumleft: :sip:

I rode back down to camp, relaxed around the fire, and reminisced about what a fine day and relaxing evening I'd had on my first full day in Colorado.  Yeah, I was at peace without a worry or care in the world.  Very lucky to have climbed up and back down Clear Lake Gulch unscathed.  Day 62 of being on the road complete.

Next up, another climb, Blue Lake Gulch.

Thanks to all that are following.  Glad to be back.

Entry 25- Nailed on Blue Lake Gulch
Star date - 19 July 2018
Distance:  Around 40 miles

I awoke on the morning of the 19th, quite sore from the previous days climb.  So I loaded the bowl with a little extra of Colorado's finest and smoked to high heaven with an ice cold Coca Cola, sitting at the picnic table, high on life.

Then I saddled up and rode to Silverton, back to the Smokey Bear Cafe for the conversation with the locals at the community table, along with a big fat breakfast and delicious piping hot coffee.
After spending too much time jawing with the locals, I rode back to camp, and took a nap, a nice long belly full nap, like a beached whale.

Once I awoke, I gathered fresh camera batteries and set off to find the entrance to the track that led up to Blue Lake.  Another one of those places I'd read about and locals told me I had to see.

The mountains along the track were beautiful.  Here's a zoom of the last pic.
