I arrived in Holbrook, completely spent after a few hours in the Arizona heat. I enter the only motel I can find with vacancy, it's a dump, but cheap. So, I turn the A/C on igloo temp and take a nap. I awake and I'm hungry, fortunately there's a restaurant adjacent to the motel parking lot. Mexican immigrants trying to make there way. Delicious food at a reasonable price with ice cold coca-cola. I feel refreshed, but I spent most of the rest of the day relaxing in my room.
I hear some motorcycles arrive in the motel parking lot. Without looking and with their distinctive sound, I know they are Ducati's. I get up and see 2 Ducati Multistradas, 3 people. I go out to meet them. They are from France and Mexico. Two brothers, both born in France, but one brother moved to Mexico and has lived there for decades, the other brother still resides in France. The one female, Belta, is the girlfriend of the French/Mexican brother. They rented the Ducati's and are following Route 66.
I tell them that the next day I'm going to ride to Petrified Forest National Monument the next day and they're welcome to ride along. They agree. Communication isn't easy as Belta is the only one to speak English.Â
The next day, Frenchy, Mexi, Belta, and I take a nice short ride out to see the Petrified Monument.
