Just completed a trip through Baviaanskloof (30th April - 4th may) on my "newish" 800gs. Have been through the area before on my Dakar and was really looking forward to seeing what the 800 could do. To my amazement and "disgust".... the rear shock collapsed on the way down HOLGAT pass. Oil poured out and covered the rear tyre/brakes and swingarm. Was able to continue with the bike bouncing like a pogo stick. I rode the next 1200km like that.

The bike is a 2009 model with 24 000km on the clock.

Question: Has this happened to anyone else?
                Is this a common problem?
What comeback do I have on BMW and the failure of one of the parts.... ( bike obviously not under warranty)
