Mad Dogs on the run

Bikers take part in Dogs on the Run to aid Care for Wild Africa in their fight to help baby rhino and other wildlife that have been orphaned by poachers.

The fight continues on Saturday and Sunday when bikers will unite and show their support in the second annual Dogs On The Run.

Organised and presented by the Mad Dogs Motorcycle Club, riders are given the opportunity to do their part in saving Wild Africa over these two days. Routes are being planned for riders to enjoy the beautiful scenery, beverages and good times the Lowveld has to offer. This year, funds raised will be donated to the Care For Wild Africa rehabilitation centre. In aid of Petronel Niewoudt, founder of Care for Wild Africa, her children, volunteers and staff, money will be raised to reward and assist in their dedicated efforts to raise the many orphaned rhino as a result of poaching. These baby rhino would face certain death if it weren’t for their hard work and dedication and it is neither an easy nor cheap task.

This adventure will start at Laguna Bar, White River on both days, leading to various location such as Badplaas and Hoedspruit, again ending in White River. Donate R100 or more to enter into the lucky draws during stops along the way. A grand prize draw consisting of various amazing prizes and giveaways will be held at Forever Hotel in White River at the end of day two for entrants who participate in both days.

A framed picture of Satara, one of the orphaned rhino ,will also be auctioned to help raise funds. Bikers booking into Forever Hotel White River qualify for a 30 per cent discount on accommodation.

“With your support, we look forward to growing this into a massive annual event in the name of bikers and friends saving our wildlife.” says Niewoudt.

Members of the public can also look forward to the band who gave the world Sultans of Swing, Walk of Life and other world famous hits, Dire Straits, performing at Supersport Park in Centurion on June 28 in support of Care for Wild Africa.

“Feeding and caring for these stressed animals is very expensive, thus we are extremely grateful to Dire Straits for offering to play as a fund-raiser,” said Niewoudt. “This concert will mean the difference between life and death for so many baby rhino.”
