Day 5:
I spent the day on a hunting/breeding farm and drove around the entire day no riding, but great for me as the bush and wildlife is still my passion even thou I do not work in the industry anymore. I had some great discussions with my Peet-pa about how he sold off 1000 cattle in 1988 to start a game farm. Everybody said he had gone mad and he also thought so many times as the start of a gamefarm is BIG bucks with 12-17 years of swaarkry cash wise. He currently owns……no remove that manages 3400 head of game of which 250 is Sable and 170 Roan and then all the other animals a proper Game ranch needs. It was clear to me that he had now reached the point where he sells animals to pay the bills and the rest is there for his love and enjoyment. I was deeply envious of him as always, but this time because he had reached a point where he can coin massively on sale of scare species, but his goal is to preserve this piece of property he has been entrusted with. Do we strive for the same thing in our daily existence? Do we aim to reach Zen place within our daily job, or do we just aim for more and more and more??? I am still undecided what I want. I want the garage full of every imaginable bike out there, even KTM’s. How do you however know when to split away to the “Zen” life and focus on creating a positive legacy?
Anyway it was a great day and I help feed many different herds of Sable and Roan that roams wild. Also did some hunting with a overseas client.
Day 6.
Well I got up early and said goodbye to my “family” and rode to Windhoek. I couldn’t get out of the farm with Giraffe, Waterbuck and Sable standing in the road with no fear of the GS. It felt great. Must be how women feel when they go shopping or golfers feel when they make that awesome put. I reached my mates house at 08:30 and we had some awesome brachens and german toppings made by his German-Afrikaans wife. I believe it is the best combo God ever made. They make awesome German food, yet like a braai. They love family life, yet have the German influences and traditions. Also they get humour not like purebred German ladies……..grappie julle. Anyway We left for Naakuse the Cheetah and other wildlife rehab center run by the Marelize lady that starred in the Golf5 ad with the three legged Cheetah. We got to the lodge, but there was no animals we needed to book a tour for that so we just had an awesome lunch and some great views. I do not think wild animals belong in cages, however I suppose there is some educational use for places like this. I just won’t get it, but sometimes you just need to smile and wave and not try and understand things.
We left Naa ku Se and took the back road to Midgard. Now my friend had never been and neither had I we only knew that it was an old farm owned by the founder of Windhoek breweries Mr. W List. He is one of the economic legends of Namibia and he started one of the biggest industries in Windhoek today. Most importantly he started the manufacture of my favorite drink Tafel Lager.
We drive for a lot longer than we anticipate and cross the Nossob River and the Swakop rivers. We also see vista’s that are amazing. I cannot explain the feeling I had when we drove these roads. With all the rain it is transformed into the stunning Kameeldoring forests and lush green hills.
We end up at Midgard to a surprise. This place is no “lodge” it is Sun city 1994. Stunning lawns and service with great big service areas and neat gardens
