Sir Alex
Pack Dog
Myself, Lady Alex a.k.a Estelle, Asterix and Ms. Asterix, a.k.a Zinia hit the road on the Saturday 31 Jan through the Free State and slept over at the Pyramid Motel in Van Reenen’s Pass and returned back home on Sunday 1 Feb – Short quick way down ….. and back.
From just after Deneysville we hit the dirt via Heilbron. where we visited the VEGKOP monument where the Boere gave the Matabeles carrots. On our way to Petrus Steyn where we had a magic breakfast at the BP garage – also biker friendly.
From there we went onto Reitz where we wanted to go through to Warden and Verkykerskop but the roads were closed, seemingly due to the rains. We then went via Kestell, Harrysmith onto Van Reenen.
I have been traveling through the Free State from way back and never have I seen it so lush and green. The crops are in bloom, cattle is fat and happy and farm dams are full – pity about the towns that are clearly not being kept like the rest of our country.
We returned to the Bronx via Golden Gate, Clarens, Bethlehem, Frankfort etc.
Sir Alex leaving home and went around to Asterix.
First coffee, and for Lady Alex and Asterix, their 1st smoke of the trip.
The dirt starts …………..
Garage at Heilbron which must have the worst toilets in the OFS.
Platteland decay in evidence and it is sad to see in every little dorpie.
Sir and Lady Alex had an un-ceremonial fall at Vegkop in some loose sand and Ms. Asterix was quick to catch the Kodak moment.
Vegkop ……………. if the Boere had GS 1150 Adv’s they could have sorted Vegkop and Bloedrivier in one day, no doubt!!
Spot the enemy/irony!!
Breakfast at Petrus Steyn and Lady Alex clearly had enough to eat.
Absolute awesome church in Kestelle.
Some “green OFS photos”
This is where we parked off for the evening. The joint is being revamped which can be seen.
Train bridge which is visible from the bungalows across from the busy N3 – big rigs all night long.
We had dinner at the Green Lantern Inn with Oxtail the specialty and they are just inside Natal to also serve a nice curry!
Asterix waiting for his chow and this man can chow!
The following morning I quickly got our group together for a short, NG nogal, sermon at the smallest church in the world before we had something to eat at the adjacent restaurant.
Some photos through Golden Gate!
Church in Frankfort on our way back.
Game set and match !
