SIDECAR CONVENTION:  4 – 6 MARCH 2011

We invite you to join us for the Yearly Sidecar Convention next year from 4 – 6 March 2011.  The venue is Saint Augustines, 30kms outside Clocolan in the Eastern Free State located at the foothills of the Maluti Mountains; the backdrop is the picturesque tourist belt of Clarens, Rosendal, Ficksburg and Fouriesburg.

We chose Saint Augustines as the venue because we would like the convention to happen in a more central part of the country to give our friends from other regions the opportunity to join in the fun as well.  St Augustines can accommodate all the sidecars in one spot.  Accommodation varies from luxury rooms with en-suite bathrooms to backpacking rooms to camping.  Enjoy the breathtaking scenery with ancient oak trees and natural springs of this old monastery which is filled with rich history.  If you would like to read more about St Augustines please go to www.saintaugustines.co.za.

The event will coincide with the Maluti Bike Adventure and the Clocolan Farm Cultural Festival that offer attractions like traditional farm fare, live entertainment, a variety of workshops and a homemade arts & crafts market.

Programme:

Friday, 4 March 2011

Arrive at your own leisure at St Augustines from 14h00 onwards where we will welcome you at the registration desk.

Braaipacks, bread, salad, pap & gravy will be provided for the evening.

Saturday morning, 5 March 2011

A mass ride will depart at 08h00 on a tarred road to Tweespruit on the R26 past Ladybrand.  We will stop at the Tweespruit local pub to enjoy a scrumptious finger breakfast which include freshly baked bread and jam from the area, rusks, boerewors, liver, lamb chops, etc.  You can drink as much filter coffee as you like served from old traditional pots.  (Approx. 40kms).

After breakfast we stop at Father Frans Claerhout’s gallery and see where he used to live and work.

From there we travel on to Exelcior (approx 40kms).  Before Exelcior we turn towards Clocolan and ride the beautiful Maquatlings Neck.

Arrive for lunch at the festival in Clocolan which include beef and chicken from the area, vegetables, potato and salads.

Make your own way back to St Augustines for Sidecar Fun & Games.  The more adventurous riders can do some off-roading on the route back, the rest of the pack can follow the tar road.

This is a roundabout route of approx. 170kms.  If you choose not to ride the route you can join the pack at the festival in Clocolan for lunch.
