With bike on the stand and rear wheel of the ground, selecting a gear is a bit crunchy.

Take the chain and sprocket off the countershaft, however, and gear selections are as smooth as butter.

Bit of a puzzler. Is the difference the load on the shaft (wheel, sprockets and chain) not being there, making the internal gear synchronisation smoother, or is the culprit the correctly adjusted, but old chain and sprockets?

Cush rubbers are fine and no play on the cush drive at all.
