Friday morning early the family left for the farm, located behind the little town of Rooiberg in the Boshoffsberge. The farmhouse is situated right on top of the mountains with no power and virtually no cell phone reception. The perfect place to relax…
From Rooiberg its gravel up into the mountains and the road is not sedan-friendly, especially after some heavy rains this season. I had to return to Joburg on Saturday, and what better excuse to take the bike!? The rest of the family went up in 4x4’s and I had a ball on the bike.
I decided to try and use gravel roads as much as possible on the way back (no GPS). A stretch of road I definitely want to do again is the Assen road between Rooiberg and Atlantis – what a pleasure! The railway tracks near Beestekraal nearly got the better of me, but all in all a great ride.
Solo riding every once in a while is good for the soul.
Herewith a few pics on the mountain and the bridge on the Assen road:
