Well this was a great trip. Up to a point I must say.
The plan was to keep you up to date with fuel consumption, tire wear at what speeds ex. To keep you in suspend as to where we are heading with you following the mileage as well as the pics.
First problem camera got wet and did not respond to downloading well. Second problem we tend to take the back roads where the World Wide Web did not reach that part of the world.
Anyhow we have travelled from Durban straight across to the west coast. The wheelie in the verneuk panne cost me a prop shaft which delayed us with only three days thank to Hamman BMW in the Cape who went out there way to assist us in Klaver.
Got the new prop shaft fitted and continue to follow the coast round cape point up past Montague past the G spot towards Joubertina.
From there we followed the coast back up toward Durban.
About 200km from Durban a pedestrian sadly made the last mistake of his life and decided to cross the N2. This is no joke. We were doing close to a 100km/h when he run across the road where we hit him head on.
Under full brakes I could only duck down and braced myself holding the handle bars straight.
After impact I found myself aiming for the grass next to the road. I could steer the back in a straight line but had very little brakes to stop.
It turned out that my brake reservoir has shattered and so I had no brake fluid. The bike is bend and buckled but we were un touched. Thank the Lord for that!!
The exhaust is pulled out at the silencer on the left, the top arm on the swinging arm is bent to such an extend it is touching the tire. This is damage far from the shattered front end?
This was the end of our trip after three punctures 5000km plus, new prop shaft and new rear tire.
We did the trip through all the storms and floods going on at the moment in our country without getting rained on once. From 39 degrees in the vast open spaces of the pans to 9 degrees in the lush rain forest of Knysna. From having the time of our life, to having a time in our life we rather want to forget.
