To say things were calm - understatement. But what lay ahead was 4 hours and 220 kilometers away.
Me and Crazy Biker Chick left Ladysmith about 10 o'clock on Wednesday 30 April,  hightailing it down the N3 to Mooi River. Every word,  every gesture told me that what lay ahead was not far from her mind,  but I knew she was as excited as I was. In Nottingham Road we took the Lotheni,  Kamberg turnoff. Sani here we come.

The start of things to come.

We have been wanting to get away since we went to the Bash in 2012 in Barkley East but business ventures kept us home except for the odd day trip or overnighter. Every year we try to get to Bike Week in Margate and this year was no exception. She has got a Honda VT 750 cruiser but we are not really into that scene.

Lunch stop on the way to Himeville.

Not wanting to loose any daylight,  we didn't stop to often for photos. As I weren't sure of the conditions on the pass I wanted to get to our overnight stop early. Nightfall also happen within minutes in the high mountains. Checking the weather forecast and with Mr Zog    ( thanx Gary ) we knew we're in for a clear day.

Filling up in Himeville. That is pictures of stress. Not so much if it is doable, but in her capability to achieve it. With that I couldn't help. This she had to do on her own.

The road from Himeville upto the old trading post below the pass is beautifully tarred. The lower slopes is still in a bad condition,  but higher up it is well maintained. Trying to speed things up I overtook a car and then it happen....... I turned around to see if she made it safely past the car and you guess right: I dropped the bike. The guy I overtook seconds ago actually stopped to find out if I'm allright but by then I have picked the bike up. Quickest that I have ever done that.

The pass proper with the summit in the lowest V.

Some of the scenery on the way up.

Although it is quite dry,  water is still seeping down the sides in places.

For our kit we each had a ATG 50 lt dry bag. CBC also had a small rucksack and I had the tools and spares in my topbox. For those of you wondering: I mounted the topbox onto a 2mm alu plate with proper eyebolts that I use for fastening. For the tyre levers I made a tool tube out of 50mm PVC pipe with a screw top. We didn't had any rain but our kit was dustproof in those bags. I think that face says it all. "I must go where?"
