I was asked to do this ride report on behalf of 11 great people – actually 10 – I’m nr. 11…
Nevertheless – 11 normal people got together this past Friday afternoon at 14:30. Not everybody was acquainted, but we quickly shook hands and left a busy Eskom-dark George from Engen at the foot of Outeniqua.
I thought to myself – what a funny mix of people – with only one thing in common – DS bikes!!
We worked our way across a busy Outeniqua pass, turned left towards Oudtshoorn, and left again after about 10k’s on the Zebra gravel road towards De Hoop.
Carpointe on his 800XC - running 2nd got lost after about 5k’s on the gravel… Eventually he stopped and heard only silence – well he thought “Everybody else has crashed”…. : :lol8:
Baked Beans went searching and found the poor lost soul… :snorting:
We continued – after a great deal of laughs and “General bike related banter”!!! atch:
We headed for Volmoed and then towards Calitzdorp on a mixture of dirt and cement road – horrible cement road!!! :eek7:
We turned into Bosvarkie for a sundowner just before Calitzdorp – but Carpointe and wife – following in a Caddy Cross was lost again… : :imaposer:
This time I went searching – found them eventually and escorted them to Bosvarkie for a well-deserved “stress-reliever”… At this stage there were some tension – most attendees had a bad Friday morning at work – some members were lost initially and the sun was heading for bed…. Some old toppies cannot see in the dark : – so we rushed things a bit and left Calitzdorp for Ladismith via the Huysriver pass. Eventually everybody was there…
Now it was out of Ladismith on the Laingsburg road – right at Koedoeskloof after about 10k’s and another 5k’s gravel to Oaksrest Wine Estate…. A bit of a shaken-up group arrived at Oaksrest backpackers section – some very sceptical…. Uncle Lions got lost between Ladismith and Koedoeskloof … : : :lol8: :lol8:
I decided to start the fire instantly, and as the members unloaded their stuff and started enjoying some alcoholic fruit-juice – we all got better acquainted – well it wasn’t long before everybody relaxed!! The evening turned into a party of note – and I’m sure I’m speaking on behalf of everybody when I say it was a humdinger of a party!!! :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
Eleven tired but happy friends went to bed after a great afternoon and evening… :3some:
