So we decide to go to Toorbos. This is a pleasant stop over on the Seven Passes Road.
And who is we? Myself & Locktite whose forum name was put to the test once again.
The wives went along the coastal route to stop at the Ocean to let his son play.
Eventually down the Langkloof with petrol stop at Joubertina & then off
to a Braai stop 10 Km just past the railway stop.
We then left the Langkloof to the Prince Alfred pass in thick mist/cloud.
With Locktite disappearing on occasion into the mist we eventually ended up
at the now famous Angies. A short stop & then further down the line for some
small adjustments to the soft panniers’ on the KLR.
Two Natal guys on 650 bikes past us but were too busy to stop & chat.
We them took a private bush road that cut around the mountains.
This road finally came out on the Kom se Pad where some of the dogs stopped
last time we were on that road.
Further down the road we stopped @ one of the pump stations that feed Knysna.
There the top box of the KLR required some urgent attention.
We managed to temporary secure it & proceeded to Knysna
After Knysna we allowed the wives to arrive at the accommodation first.
Only the right thing to do as they needed to prepare the fire & drinks must be cooled.
A family ride with 4 on the bike, Yes 4 as wife is expecting the second.
Up to this point we had been communication on the ride with the Scale rider 2 headsets.
Fully charged you get the 500meter distance but as the battery strength lessened during
The day the distance went down to 50 meters which was still OK.
I had the cell phoned synced to the Zumo 500 & that synced to the Scale rider headset.
This worked well as I could answer calls with the number displayed on the Zumo.
I had a Home button which when touched on the Zumo, dialed the wife’s cell phone
making communication on the move with the wife travelling on the coastal road easy.
Noise was the only factor which will keep the buddy to buddy link open.
The radio function was great & the music from the Zumo excellent.
The accommodation was great with wood laid on enough for a chatting fire later.
On with the ride the next day saw us complete the Seven Passes to George.
Up the Montague Pass for a coffee stop.
Some greenery which requires much more rain than we have at present.
I am collecting some cool mountain water that tasted real fresh.
Both bikes performed well with the GSA doing 21 Km / liter at easy 100 to 110 Km /Liter.
The KLR also at 20 Km/Liter with no oil usage since we did the homing & new piston & rings.
Will I go back? Definitely an easy saturday ride with an excellent sleep over and a
nice sunday ride back.
