Vaal Dam Breakfast run 12 Feb 06

So today we did a breakfast run to go and see the water flowing out the Vaaldam, as they have opened 4 of the sluices.
The response to my invite was not met very enthusiastically, as only Funacide responded apart from Excalibur & Larrysleguana that I invited along for the ride, so I decided to invite my speedbike mates along to join in the fun. All in all we turned out to be 9 bikes so it was a nice crowd.

Stef & Manie had just taken delivery of their new CBR Fireblades ?06 and Larrysleguana was on his new 1200GS. This bike was apparently christened very severely on Friday night as our ?after work beer? drinks finaly drew to a close at 1 o?clock Sat morning.

Anyhow back to the issues at hand. Funacide had to meet all the new faces, but apparently had lots to talk about J

Adventurer send me an SMS, said he?d join us at Blockhouse for the ride, so the party grew even bigger.

No gravel roads was travelled as we had super bike company, and soon we were admiring the millions of litres of water flowing out the Vaal Dam. Really a spectacular site.

After all the phodies we headed for the Flying Saucer restaurant, which was flooded with bikers as everybody had seemingly gone to the dam to watch the water flow.

Manie aka Maniac from the BikeSa forum had struck a bird with his new ?06 Fireblade and the bird went right through the fairing?.

?no idea what speed he was doing , but presumably not the legal one!

Eventually we had our breakfast & could head back home as I had to get to catch the big bird down to George.

A really nice road ride this morning without and offroad stuff. The views of all that water are amazing and to see the difference in the water level at the UFO restuarant between December and now is amazing.

Thanks to all for a gr8 ride and to Leo and Adventurer for leading the way.

Wish I could take some photos while cornering with Leo in front. It is awesome to see him lean that GS into the corner while overtaking a roadie.. HE CAN RIDE!!!

Yea I'd like to know what speed he was doing.

He passed me on the R59, but we turned off and took another route. He then tried to find us and eventually got totally lost. By the time he stopped at the UFO he had already used 3 tanks of gas, so he was not a happy chappy. (Should teach him to stay behind the navigator)

Found out my bike cuts out at 218.6 km/h on the GPS!

Leo, thats a good speed mate. Really good. I have heard all kinds of crap from 9fiddy riders that they do 220 plus, but the most I have gotten out of it, on a flat road with no tailwind is 209 on the clock.

I have heard that, and I believe it, that I will get more speed from 5th gear than 6th. I will try that next time for sure!

Nice going... poor dude with that fairing. Without a pic, the insurance would probably be laughing their ***** off at such a dumb reason for claiming :shock: :shock:

Me I can like to be riding a 1200GS.

Yea the clock on my bike was way past the 220 mark, so I guess the okes who told you were quoting clock speed, not GPS speed. Noticed about a 4% error on my bikes speedo vs GPS

....my bikes got a full Remus, plus K&N airfilter which does add some punch at top end! (and I have the mags fitted which weight's about 5 kg's lighter than the standard wheels)
