Yesterday morning in the southern cape (just outside Mossel bay, Hartebeeskuil dam road) a farmer stopped to clear some bush that was across a gravel road, some armed guys were waiting, ended badly. It was basically a trap.
So just a warning - If you come across bush/branches blocking a back road, son't approach - either u-turn or wait for other vehicles. It may have been just a one-off incident and it may only be relevant to southern cape but if something like this happens once it usually happens again. We tend to feel very safe out there on farm roads, maybe we shouldn't.
Please pass this on to other riders/drivers you know doing back-road trips.
Apologies if this is already a known tactic, it's new to me.
