Yea the big thing with the GPS is to have auto routing OFF and try a track or trail that is not a road.  This will allow you to see if the GPS reacts the way it should.  In some case you can even turn off your map and only ride on the crumb trail – I’ve ended up riding down a dry river bed missing the road next to it as I misread the detail on the map.
This is an important skill and will vary with the GPS unit you have.
Leftless, I agree, All maps (T4A)  off, and diffrent colours for different tracks or routes

Yes, I also find that the easiest - some GPS's can only take 500 points (like the 60CSx and many others) - were the tracks broken down into smaller sections keeping this in mind? You can then still display all the sections simultaneously on the map and they basically follow on, to form one continuous track.

Well done to everyone that finished and all the organisers and helpers, looks like it was a very well organised and tough event!

Jeepers okes, looks hectic!  :eek7:

Congrats to all the people who qualified!  Big up!  :thumleft:

Where did you see who qualified?  :patch:

Flip, I was really bummed about my battery situation. Nothing much I could do about that and it's not like you carry a spare battery where ever you ride.  :-\

After Scrat brought me his old battery I still had to be jumped started 5 times!!! (No wonder he chucked that battery, bike didn't even want to idle properly!)

I was very surprised when I saw other riders as I was sure that I would finish dead last. I even caught up to our very own (almost) dakar Legend Tau who ran into tire and navigational difficulties.  :ricky:

One thing came to mind often during this race run: you've got to WANT it. Determination is key! And stupidity also helps a little... ;D

Hooked up with shawn after the ride.

Had a look at where he got lost.Imagine your two year old child takes a purple crayon and scribbles all over your gps screen.

His clutch took a bit of a hammering as well as the bike generally overheating.

Best part he said was when he rode upto the Atlantis nature gate and asked the attendant
"AMAGEZA"? to only get "SUKA" as a reply. :imaposer:

To hijack my own thread...

How was the Battle of the Bands at Zone 7?

Very nice report Kamanya. I agree. Also made the mistake of buying the E 10 ****. Wish I had the money to buy yours, then I can make a moerse fire to get rid of the ****. Think for me...Back to TKC

A big thanks to the organisers for a great day and a interesting route. Unfortunately I could not finish as I also damaged the fan on my bike.
Was a interesting moment for me when that Gyrocopter flew past overhead. Gave me quite a fright.
