Quick update: so we went to the Motor Vehicle Registration Authority at the Civic Centre yesterday to submit our TRN Application form. The lady at the counter accepted it, but it needs to be sent to some kind of central processing for final approval. She didn't seem too hopeful that it would be approved because:

1) we have a tourist visa-exemption stamp in our passport, not a work or education visa
2) we don't have a permanent address, just a short-term AirBnB booking

Anyway, we'll find out next Monday if it gets approved. Fingers crossed.

We got it!!!!!

Picked up our TRNs today. Didn't think we would be issued them, but we were so happy they came through.

Now to pick up a couple of motorcycles and we're off to see Africa!

Hello!! Just curious what bikes you ended up buying...? How did that part of the process go? We saw your write-up about the TRN... glad it worked out for you!!  My husband and I (He's French, I'm American) will be arriving into Jo'burg in a little over a month and we're hoping to get a TRN and then buy a bike (1150 or 1200 GSA) to travel around with! We hope you've been enjoying traveling around RSA! Maybe we'll be able to meet up on the road somewhere! Take care! Ride safe!

Traffic Register Number. Its a document that is required if you do not have an South African ID. The application process of a TRN attempts to make sure you have a valid address so that you can receive your fines  ;D
You need it to transfer the ownership into your name or to do a license.

Hi everyone! We're still in South Africa, but our visa is running out soon!

We are passing through Pretoria in the next few days, to pick up some supplies on our way out of the country, if anyone wants to get together with us this weekend for a drink, PM me!
