That afternoon, we decided to treat ourselves after sucessfully tackling such challenging terrain!

Oudtshoorn is less than an hour south of the Swartberg Pass. Just outside town, we had passed by some ostrich farms. I remembered seeing them the first time we rode through last week. From the all signs posted on the side of the road, we found out that ostrich racing is a thing here. You could pay a small fee and ride an ostrich on one of these farms.

When we saw that, Neda exclaimed, "Nooo! That sounds like such a cruel thing to do to an ostrich!!!"

So we decided to eat them instead.

:D

Most enjoyable - your writing is hilarious and the photo's are beautiful! Gamkaskloof is on my To Ride-list, but lucky me I'm only on a little light Suzuki DR650

I agree with switching off communicators - a friend once derailed me by shouting encouragement on a loose steep uphill, next moment found me parked up against a big rock 2m off the track.

I think I'll head on over to your blog and go read the rest of it. Safe and happy travels! :ricky:

Nice read! Wonderful attitude. Slower is better [emoji106]

It takes a tourist to show you what you miss in your own back yard.
Thanks for the very entertaining R&R. :ricky:

Thanks guys!

If I want to add more pictures of our ride through Africa, how do I get this thread moved to the Ride Reports section?

Maybe [member=408]JonW[/member] or [member=2052]Heimer[/member] or one of the other moderators could move it please?

It would be great if you keep posting photo's, and I really enjoy your blog.

Thanks for moving our post!

Here is a little bit from our run up Prince Alfred's Pass:

I thought about editing out the middle part, but I left it in to show off how sophisticated my camera setup is... :D

"This place reminded me of the VA Waterfront in Cape Town, with the expensive boats in the marina and the overpriced restaurants and souvenir shops."

You sound like a true Saffer (South African) :imaposer:

I do see the photo's. Also loving reading your blog, it is hilarious.

Although Sani pass was very scary, HUGE kudos to Neda for conquering the last 3 switchbacks!! Everyone always makes it sound so doable but I'm with you, that looks like some hard riding. Well done to both of you for making it to the top!!
