Day-2, part 5

Briv had walked back to check what had happened (the rest were waiting some 300m around the next bend). The sign of an experienced crew... Everyone was riding according to the buddy-system, and had noticed something was up very quickly.  :3some:

With Andy660 and Tenere loaded, we gave Briv a lift back to the waiting Dawgs. Bradleys (our resident ride medic) was happy to see his services were not needed.

We'd traveled for an hour & a half and only covered about 10kms... Time is ticking - no one is keen to tackle is trail in the dark.  :deal:

Briv got us moving again...

The Landy was permanently in low range - using only first & second gear...

Leftless was doing an skilled job... Specially since we were very heavily laden with camping kit for 11 riders, and a bike on the trailer.

Over yet another crest... And a short flat stretch.

The was extremely slippery... One touch of the brakes would have had us slidding down the steep hill.

The vegetation was changing... less scrub and more green bushes and proteas

And the seemingly endless winding jeep track...

I tried photographing one of the passing proteas, but the Landy was moving like a washing machine.

The difficulty with this trail is that constant need to concentrate over a very long period. We've all ridden trails with similar technical conditions using big DS bikes (most of our crew were on 990s), but usually that is over 3 or 4kms... Not for 25km - which ended up taking us 4 hours.

Choosing the right line was critical.

Up or down... There's no rest for the wicked.

Awesome mountain views

DSC03754.JPG

And then there were sections where there just was no good line...

DSC03756.JPG

We'll be there, just over the next mountain range... became a frequently repeated joke.  :bueller:

And over time the trail seemed to get worse...

After a few more crests and gorges, we eventually joined up with the main dirt road to the EC Bash base camp... just 3 km down the road.

We entered the camp, across Watty's water crossing (which the guys could do with eyes closed after the previous 25kms) and went looking for a likely place to set up camp.

Through all the many interesting and challenging obstacles, beside Andy660's small off due to his flat rear, all the bikes & the Landy had arrive unscathed... OR SO WE THOUGHT!

Pete decides to pitch tent here.  :xxbah:

Luckily for him, Pete's understudy - DonovanKTMCT came to the rescue... We were too busy laughing   ;D
