Did you go up or down Penge pass? And the other way around - did you do that other pass I gave Mark?

Judging by the pic going up

Nope, the evidence is inconclusive. I was in contact with Mark before this, and I believe the plan was to go down Penge and up another pass I've came upon few months ago. That one runs north of Penge pass, but connects at the top to the route Penge route takes on the way to the Park Gate.

So they could have gone either way - in each case they would be on that picture heading down.

Only did the other pass. What is it called?
We started late because of punctures and mechanical issues earlier in the day

Ok but that pic is clearly taken on the top after Penge heading down towards Mafefe but yes could have placed bikes like that for an “adventure” picture

No, it isn't. It is on top of the final very steep descent heading down to the river that leads to the Main gate. There is gate about km from that point in the fence (unlocked) that one has to open and close. I suspect you were never there as I don't believe you have headed down to the main gate.

Oh - I see. I have no idea what is that other pass called - I found it on satellite images on Google and it doesn't have there. I just called by the name of the village at the bottom, which is Ga-Mokgotho, and I'm pretty sure that isn't its real name, if it even has one.

How did you get to the bottom of the pass? I thought from your morning picture that you have slept in the challets in the part itself. Did you go down Orrie Baragwanath, or long way around on tar to reach bottom of that noname pass? Or am I mistaken and the challets are somewhere else?

Anyway, I was quite keen to see what you guys would thing about Penge pass on big bike. I have done it 2 weeks ago for the second time on 690 and still cannot make my mind if I should attempt it on 990. It is noticeably tougher than that noname one. I guess I will have to go again and try myself... :)

Sidetrack is confused - it's been very long time since he has been there, you might say completely different era. He still used to ride European bikes - KTM no less.

Since he started riding Yamaha he focuses more on visiting graves and expousing beauty of Free State dirt highways  :peepwall: :pot:

Just pulling your leg Jacques - you actually brought Penge pass (the whole area) to my attention long time before I first time rode it  :thumleft:

But you are mistaken on the location of the picture. Top of Penge is not that dramatic as the mountains are further away. I believe this spot is in the picture below and that is in the area where I think (based on your reports) you have never visited. And you should rectify that as that is the coolest part of that route IMO.
