Beautiful little town. Touristy, sort of alternative, so the total opposite than eg Clarens. Nieu Bethesda comes to mind, but even quieter. To give you an idea: four places to eat including a wine bar with a upmarket selection of wines and whiskeys and a funky waffle place. A kooperasie, with fuel and a small typical platteland grocer with the basics, and a very small bottle store. That’s it. People come here because there is almost nothing, if you are into that.
Town very much into the tiny house movement, they claimed it started here. Many container houses. Many top class artist living here.
Town is spanking clean.
When load shedding kicks in, there’s no water. Many houses have solar, gas and water tanks. A couple of months ago they were 8 days without water, an issue with pumps.
Unfortunately the access roads are horrific, so tourism is taking a knock. But the town is full at the moment, we battled to get accommodation when we booked a month ago.
