DAY 7 - HARARE TO KARIBA

The old adage "a kak day on the bike is still better than a good day at the office" is always true, but was surely tested on day 7 of our trip......
Heavy long weekend traffic, hundreds of trucks and a tar road suited to one lane of traffic, not two. It wasn't fun.....


Coen @0012 joined us again at Dema Lodge and after breakfast we head off to Kariba in the long weekend traffic.

Refuel in Chinoyi

After what seems like forever on the A1 and a few close calls with trucks, we stop at the famous Saucy Sue’s for a coffee and gourmet steak sandwich

After a refuel outside Karoyi, we hit dirt at last. Mark is very excited about this part of the ride.

We go through a riverbed and the sandy climb out the emanbment keeps some of the guys busy.

Ek het gehoop die nuwe brug by Kazungula sou baie meer van die Durban/Harare/Chirundu trokke verkeer oorneem, maar ongelukkig het die brug min verskil gemaak aan die verkeer op daai Chirundu pad.
Ons vertrek gewoonlik vroeg, so 4vm, dan is mens al verby Chinhoyi teen die tyd wat die trokke weer aan die beweeg is.

Veral tussen Karoi en Makuti is die pad baie kronkelrig met "blind rises galore" en dis nie ongewoon om om n draai te kom en te sien daar's twee trokke langs mekaar vinnig oppad in jou rigting... dan klim jy maar van die pad af pappie. En daar's n lekker groot drop-off vanaf die teerpad grond toe aan beide kante.

Maar ja as jy nie haastig is nie, en vat n breuk by Lion's Den (Saucy Sue's) dan is dit die moeite werd vir n lekker kariba wegbreek.

@Just Blip It! 's route is unfortunately blocked by a landslide and we end up having to ride back to the A1 and continue on tar to the turnoff to Kariba at Makuti.
