Attakwaskloof: Day 1

On Saturday Morning Topbox and I arrived at Honda George where Geoff, Kevin and Gavin were already waiting.

Topbox has a great bike and I can seriously see one of these in my future  ;D

More and more bikes arrived. Introductions were done and bikes admired.

Before long we were on our way. A couple of kmâ??s from Fancourt we hit the first dirt.

P7210014.jpg

The roads were wet and muddy and the going was slow.

P7210024.jpg

Quite a few bikes had close calls. Mud is not the favorite road condition! At this stage I was wondering Hoo Hoo who would be the first to go downâ?¦  ;) ;D

At the first stop road conditions was the topic of discussion. A light bike with knobblies has big advantages in these conditions.  :p

Tyre pressures were adjusted and we were on our way again

As the road conditions improved people started enjoying the South Cape scenery.

Clinton and LetsGoFishing enjoying the ride:

Hallo Uiltjie!  8)

The second stop was at a river where we enjoyed snacks and drinks.

Next stop was at Diesel & Dust to fill up on petrol.

P7210070.jpg

Some bikes had some interesting â??extrasâ?  ;D

P7210069.jpg

Then Uiltjie â?? being the perfect Gentleman â?? decided that he would break the iceâ?¦  ;D ;D ;D

I did promise that I would report that he was power sliding at 220km/h on dirt when he went downâ?¦  ;) ;D ;D

P7210065.jpg

From freshly renamed Uitjie & Dust we followed the Haelkraal road and later turned North to Bonniedale Adventure Farm.

This is a lovely road with ever changing scenery.

This is the same spot where a certain lady from this forum decided to â??stopâ? on our Easter trip

;D ;D ;D

Itâ??s a nice spot â?? one of many on this route

P7210098.jpg

From here itâ??s a short stint to the farm. I stopped at a gate to close it after everyone was through, but no one came. After a while we realized that something was wrong. Clinton rode back and found that Kevin from PE overshot a corner and had quite a bad fall. Iâ??m sure someone would post pics of that fall later.  :-\

On to the farm.

This is a great destination and I hereby formally nominate it for a venue when we have a Cape regional bash.  ;D

We unpacked and relaxed. The liquid refreshments were close at hand.

When the sun started to set we were well underway to a great evening.

Eisbein decided to look around. Check out the ATGATT.  ;D

The party continued until the wee hours. More on that laterâ?¦  ;) ;D

Attakwaskloof: Day 2

When we woke this morning quite a few people werenâ??t as rowdy as the night before. Breakfast ranged from Weetbix to cold pies and braaivleis.

P7220148.jpg

Sauerkraut showing how cold it is

P7220149.jpg

Before we set out we all lined up for a group photo ( I canâ??t wait to see that pic Vicky) and when we pulled off I rode over a water pipe (which I did not see) at an angle.  :-\ With all the dew I had no grip and the front wheel washed out.  ::) I went down like a sack of potatoes much to the delight of the others and especially Uiltjieâ?¦  >:D

Iâ??m sure those pics will be posted and quoted over and overâ?¦

When the laughter died down we finally set out for Attakwaskloof.

P7220155.jpg

This is my favorite Kloof route. The pictures cannot do the scenery justice. Itâ??s absolutely amazing.

Here we said goodbye to Uiltjie, Philip, Topbox and Surf who headed to Gysmanshoek Pass (I cant wait to see those pics).

P7220196.jpg

We headed over Cloetes Pass towards Herbertsdale

At this turnoff the group split again and we said our goodbyes to the PE guys and Eisbein who continued to Hertsdale and the N2.

LGF, â??Sweeperâ? Mike, Clinton, Sir G and I took the scenic route back to George

We also saw the game that was so elusive the day before.

And so another great ride came to an end. I hope all you guys got home safe. Thanks to all who attended â?? you guys made this ride a success. Special thanks to Sir G who led the group which in turn freed me up to take lots of pics, to â??Sweeperâ? Mike who closed the gates behind all of us and LGF who cleaned up this morning and even did the dishes!

I hope to see you guys again in the not to distant future.

In anticipation of what is going to happen in this thread I would like to leave you with this image:

Cheers!

Goeies :hello2: :headbang: :hello2: :headbang:

Nice Report and some great pics there TR!

Well done.

Nice, TR.

Those roads still gives me butterflies in my stomach.

Eish.  That fall was sore!!

man, that remains beautiful country!

Those pics of Attekwaskloof brings some good memories of the April trip.  Thanks TR.

The road back to CT after the split.

Myself, Philip, Topbox and Surf set off direction CT with all the gravel we could lay our tyres on.  After 200km of first gear trailing the kloof, we ENJOYED some very high speed gravel sections towards Barrydale - speeds of up to 180 km/h were recorded (hopefully not by law cameras!) on the gravel highways towards the R323.  We then turned towards Barrydale, in search of the Gysmanskloof Pass that eluded us 2 days before.  After asking locals (Tannie Karen van Garmin ken nog nie daai pas nie!) we rode the most beautiful of passes this area has to offer.

To get back to my reported "220km/h powerslide on dirt my China" fall - KTM's love petrol, and my one just wanted to hug the pump - 'n pomp is 'n pomp ou pel!  I just wonder why so much explanation was given to the Trailrider fall - and no excuses for the Uiltjie come-off?????  All I can say is, my boney has been stationary for a couple of minutes before she rolled off the side stand......

Any way, thanks guys for a most enjoyable weekend with great company!

Hoe lank ry mens op 'n KTM 950 van Sedgefield na George?

Ek sien LetsGoFishing het Saterdag 09h29 nog gepost op die forum....geen wonder ons moes wag vir hom nie.... ;) ;)

Nice ride guys. ;D

TOPBOX, your ass must have been in some serious pain.
The seat is known to be a pita , but it was not as uncomfortable as i expected.
The screen was brilliant and made the distance and speed ok.

Looks like a great time was had by all. Nice one TR
