    ATGATT for kids

My kids https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=36435.msg889431#msg889431 have expressed an interest now in riding pillion on my bike. Obviously I need a helmet. Generally I would not consider a second hand helmet dut to how it takes the shape of your head and their lifespan. And you never...

    Break in the rain!

Looks like it has stopped raining for a bit. Anyone in Pretoria region want to try a quick run to somewhere for lunch. I need a ride desperately. Perhaps i can hit Cullinan after the breakfast runners have run for home. Grip warmers are such a lekka ding when your gloves are damp on such a...

    Gaerne SG12 boots

Just saw some Gaerne Sg12s, almost new, not a mark on them and still stiff. R5500 They fit, I can shift with them but uncomfortable like a new boot. So tempting to buy. I just dont want to spend so much and not sure I need a full MX boot. Overkill on my GS, but can you get a better boot?

    Boots and gear shift position

Yesterday i tried on the Quadrant boots I ordered. You cant cant your foot anywhere but above the shift lever on my GS. Fark So i didnt take them. The lever will have to be moved no matter what boot I take, but to move it enough to accomodotae the Thor boot means shifting will be uncomfortable...

    Ride around KwaNdebele

Did a Solo trip around KwaNbele yesterday. It was just under 400 km round trip, in 8 hours, of which about half was gravel. It went through no developed towns. just some villages, and locations, while the rest is empty. I saw very few cars until reaching Moloto, when almost home. A word of...

Geological maps pulled in to google when planning a ride

For those interested in the geology of their rides, for work I usually overlay geological maps over the area of interest. For those who ride to look at rocks rather than look for sand or mud puddles, this may be interesting to you. The geological overlays can be made more or less opaque...

    What exactly is a poser?

OK, many people use this term, but WTF does it mean? Is a poser: Someone who uses a DS bike to commute or in town (ok so who doesnt do this)? Someone who buys BM, KTM or Suzuki etc kit beacuse he likes it, its very good quality and they can afford it? Someone who calls good gravel road off...

    Pretoria to Warmbaths by Dirt

Boer and I put the crash bars on my bike, well not 100% yet but good enough for a ride. Went from Pta east to Cullinan via the road of death, the R104. Straight north past cullinan then turn left towards the Moloto Rd. first left after getting on  Moloto rd puts you on gravel heading north...

Nice late afternoon ride from Pretoria east - 1 hour

I just did this ride after work today. Takes about an hour to 90 minutes depending on how long to get out of town and how often you stop. Its quite a good gravel road some badly rutted sections due to rain. Many variations are possible due to the network of roads. Combination of low traffic tar...

    Ride to Vaalwater area

On Friday I had to go to a site for work near Vaalwater. I decided to ride up since I didnt need to take equipment up. I left at 0630 and got on the N4, joining the poor bastards who do that commute to Joburg. Unfortunately the turnoff onto the Pietersburg highway is the same as the one to...

    Any Interesting falls?

This morning I was riding my usual gravel roads. I was cornering this morning and it was very muddy due to all the rain we have had in Pretoria. I think my back wheel got bored with following the front wheel. It decided it wanted to lead for a change. But the stubborn front wheel was having...

    Greetings/Groete from a new member

Hi Im riding a R1200 GS. I'm in Pretoria. I prefer riding alone on back roads, especially gravel, and tracks I identify with google earth. Anazing the places you can get to and see no one. I'm dont do those bike club things and avoid crowds. I guess one or 2 others would be fine, but a...
