We came to a raging river and I was confident that we would have to turn around. The sound of the raging river and rain bucketing down added to feeling of impending doom[emoji12]

Mark inspected briefly an simply got on his bike and rode it through.

I hate the word "epic", but I think this ride could be termed that!

The most difficult of all mediums on a bike, mud.

Ek dink nie eers ek sou daai rivier met my kayak aanvat nie  atch:

My turn came up and I nervously approached the edge of the river. The front wheel dropped into the river and heart went into my throat. Water was deep and the riverbed covered with large slippery stones. My short legs struggled to secure proper footing and I was sure  I was going to topple over.

Japie came across the river on foot to assist. He fell over on the slippery rocks and said afterwards that it was easier riding across than walking

Japie is a monster of a man. With Japie behind me I was sure he was keeping my bike upright. It was only when watching Marks video footage that I realised he was only there for moral support. We had a good chuckle.

We started climbing again as the rain continued

The rain was still pelting down and going was extremely slow.

All roads and paths turned into rivers. We were soaking wet and miserable

We took shelter under a roof in the middle of nowhere with a few goats and a horse

Our hearts sank when we realised our planned route out of this mess was now blocked by a big river .

We made our way back in the direction we came from.
Some of the tricky descents we went down earlier now became very gnarly climbs with virtually no traction from our worn  MotoZ tyres
