It was now late afternoon, we had been struggling up and down koppies and mountains for hours. We were well aware that we might end up spending the night out there if we were not able to find a route out.

Eventually a kind gentleman in a hut next to the road pointed us towards a track that went through his yard and eventually ended up at a pedestrian bridge over the river. We were extremely relieved!

Mark likes his deep water crossings. what is his shoe setup?
waterproof or semi waterproof and riding like this only means water cant get out. Do you just stop after the deep crossings and empty your shoes or ride with the slosh or have some other plan?

(I would like to hear something like you drilled a hole in your sole. I bean meaning to do this for a while now!)

Nothing special, we just ride on.... :ricky:

We aborted the route and made our way to Wakkerstroom in very cold conditions. We arrived in thick fog and proceeded to look for open establishments. Were were drenched to the bone and in need of something to eat when we sat down in the Wakkerstroom Hotel just after 4pm.
We had several coffees, some OBS and a very late lunch.

We still had some way to go to Dundee and the weather was not letting up. We thought it wise to stay in Wakkerstroom for the night.

We got hold of Miles at Dirt Maniacs who had accommodation for us and we settled into our room just before 6.

We obviously didn't plan the stay-over in Wakkerstroom, so none of us had dry clothes. After a warm shower we started drying undies, socks and shirts in front of the fire while wrapping ourselves with the bedding provided :3some:

With only a couple of servings of coffee to sustain us for the night, we had some good laughs and stories to tell while rotating our clothing in front of the fire. A night that will be fondly remembered!

Mark left his Mohair socks too close to the fire and had settle for a lot less sock the next morning…..

We woke to a beautiful morning the next day. We head in to town for breakfast and fuel.

Great video of some hard core riding  :thumleft: Those river crossings are scary and the muddy inclines potential clutch toasters !
