Let the fun begin.
Merzouga Rally 2016 – The dates
21/5 Administration and Technical checks
22/5 Warm up and Prologue
23/5 1st Stage Merzouga-Merzouga
24/5 2nd Stage Merzouga-Merzouga
25/5 3rd Stage Merzouga-Atlas Bivouac Marathon
26/5 4th Stage Atlas Bivouac Marathon-Erfoud
27/5 5th Stage Dunes GP
So we have a few "locals" to follow this year.
First up is Joey Evans. His thread about the journey from broken back to Dakar is here https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=192244.0, and the FB page here https://www.facebook.com/fromparatodakar/?fref=ts
This rallye is the vehicle (excuse the pun) which Joey plans to use to convince ASO to grant him an entry into Dakar 2017.
Have a look here (https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=179089.msg3341448#msg3341448). In Amageza 2015, Joey finished a stage riding on a tyre that he repaired with elbow guards. This is one seriously tough competitor.
This is his office for the next few days
Second up is David Thomas.
Another South African aiming for a Dakar start. His facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/Journeytodakar/?fref=ts
He finished top 10 in Abu Dhabi recently, which is impressive
Third up is Vincent Crosbie from Botswana. He can ride, fast! Vince was a crew member for David Reeve at the Dakar that David actually finished, and plans to ride Dakar 2017. He was second at Amageza 2015.

And last but not least, Walter Terblanche.
