Looks good, cant wait for the real thing.

Saw Kamanya's textbook assault on Brookskeur (one of the other videos listed on the side)  :thumleft:

Also saw Pleco's video.

He deserves a bloody medal!  Looks like he spent more time helping others than riding.  A real solid individual!

I hope the actual video is going to be better than this teaser. Where is the old Yammie, the XR-L, and Mike's old BMW? Or is the old bikes bad for the image of Amageza? :peepwall:

This promo was put together specifically for Monster Energy for inclusion in their brand activity feedback.

For the 25min edit and the extended edit the team will select shots that best contribute to the narrative / story. It is also dependant on what we were able to shoot at the event and the technical quality of those specific shots. We don't intend to discriminate depending on specific riders or bikes.

Bluebull2007 het my gewaarsku - "ride 70% of your limit - just finish it", maar nee, my bike en ek weet mos beter...

So leer mens.

Glad you are learning ;D

Just watch my vid's and you will see I should follow my own advice a bit better too.  :deal:

I hope this event goes from strength to strength. Imagine having 2 weeks of highlights to watch every evening, just like the Dakar.

How difficult was this riding compared to other rallies? Did any of the pros compare the type of riding to ones they have done?

2 weeks would be pretty cool. I am putting together a 6-day road book that will be properly pre-run starting in Pretoria and ending in CT, Average total distance each day is 650-800km with 250-600km specials. It is going to be gruelling, and there will be plenty of navigation required. The range on your bike is going to have to 250km, and you will need a proper road book holder at least like was used on the Amageza.  I'm hoping the Amageza guys might take an interest and bite....  :deal:

By the way anyone interested in helping with this project, please send me a PM. Pre-running is an awesome experience.  :deal:

I'm no pro, but here is what I thought:

Stage 1- Pretty easy stage. Not very long but more representative of a in international rally in that there was 260? km  liaison loop at the end. We got in early at 1:30pm, so it was a shortish.

Stage 2- Way too short, but it was quite technical, so had it been 300km longer it would have been considered a hard stage.

The road book had a lot to be desired though I was extremely impressed considering the organizers have not done a rally before themselves. It was reasonably accurate on the distances, but there were a few errors here and there and not nearly enough detail was provided. In my experience is is typical to have tulip diagram every few hundred metres, except when the road is fast.  In Amageza were no specific cautions anywhere, just general cautions for whole sections so this meant much slower riding in the more technical sections.

An example was the sharp, tightening left-hander half way down the hill on the second day. A lot of people including me overshot the corner, and one guy smashed his bike up pretty good. We were very lucky not to have anyone seriously hurt there. In defense of the organizers, they had triple cautioned the whole 10km section. Curves like that, holes, anything that is likely to kill someone if they hit it at 140km/hr need to be marked in the road book as individual cautions.

It takes days even weeks to put a road book together for just one day, and I know the organizers were pressed for time, so given the constraints it was still a pretty good job.

Thanks BB.

This and your vids gives the rest of us a good idea on how the rally was in real life.

The Dakar is an impossible dream for most of us, but the Amageza puts that experience almost in reach.

Does anyone know what the average age of the riders was? Looks like quite a few old ballies were there. I suppose experience counts as much as speed in this one?

I was just a spectator, but it looked like the average was about 40ish at the start, and about 50ish by the finish  ;D

Howzit BB,

As one of the "Old Ballies"  referred to by GOBBWD...... :pot:...  I just wanted to mention one thing re your planned trip..

From a logistical point I reckon it would be cool to start AND end in the same place...

The mere idea of getting yourself and kit  and bike back after 5 days of riding is a bit of a worry...

Just my 2c worth.

Ps.... who was the oldest riders at the Amageza ??
