Had to get to court in Wynberg in a hurry this morning and used my son's bike to ride from town via De Waal drive. Going well until I got to the bottom of Edinburough drive and took the Claremont turn-off.
Round the bend and voila...  ;D see a scooter rider fly off her bike after being knocked down by a cage. She land in middle of road, bike on side with fuel oozing out...
Stopped and tried to help, but cages come down that road so fast - so left passersby to help rider and concentrated on redirecting traffic away from her.

Rider - 20yr old - obviously very shaken, clearly with two broken fingers on left hand, abrasions on hand and elbow, ripped jeans and cuts on knee. Minor damage to scoot & helmet. Damage to car driver door...  ??? ???... driver door... erm a solid white line here.....

Story unfolds, the vehicles were travelling from Claremont area towards town. Two lanes before traffic light.
Driver (female) of white Toyota, decides that this is for the birds (no pun) and decides to make a right-hand U-turn to head back to Claremont - FIRST mistake..... U-Turn, crossing Solid white line, No indicators used, no checking the mirror....

Here now another boo-boo.... the lady biker - shunting along, instead of lane-splitting between two rows of cars, decides to overtake and rather ride on wrong side of solid white line... in the oncoming traffic lane.

So she's in the wrong - as is the driver of the car!

She'll be ok - shocked with minor injuries.... hope she learns from that though.... ride where you are supposed to, not one wrong side of the road... and NEVER trust cage drivers - even with indicators on!

Such an unnessesary accident.....  ???
