So I asked the guard how long does it take to drive through the reserve, "soe 4 ure mineer" I asked about some of the wild life and he says " wies nit versigtig vi die lepped, dan sal djy ok wies"  :thumleft: So after the formalities was done, off I went with an excitement in me like a moffie at a Truworths panty sale

It was 4 hours of the best riding I have done in SA yet, and the beauty of this place is just special. I was so fortunate to not have one single vehicle whilst driving through the Baviaans and that just made it so much more enjoyable. The pics will talk for it self :ricky:

and then the time for the infamous Smitskraal. Got off the bike and relaxed with a couple of Marlboro's and just listening to the sounds of the bush. If you listen carefully you can hear the bush come alive

Baviaans359.jpg

had to be careful and on the lookout for dangerous animals

Baviaans362.jpg

and actually found one - the eastern cape snapping death turtle  :peepwall:

Baviaans366.jpg

then I had to quickly cross smitskraal without incident and hope I dont drown the KLR.

to be continued.....

Not long after exiting Baviaans at the Patensie side I saw this:

Baviaans396.jpg

Took a right and headed to the Kouga dam. Very impressive dam I must say. Did some meandering around this area before I headed down to Jeffrey's

Baviaans397.jpg

Baviaans398.jpg

Baviaans400.jpg

Tires is afraid of confined spaces. So I had to sweet talk him by promising him some cold beer once we reach the coast :mwink:

Baviaans403.jpg

Baviaans410.jpg

This tunnel has some impressive acoustic and the cowley was growling like an upset dragon. Had to turn around and do it again

Baviaans407.jpg

A smoke break was in order while enjoying the surroundings and reflecting on the days ride :ricky:

after leaving here

the next on the agenda was this

Baviaans429.jpg

while enjoying some of this

:eek:ccasion14:

One of the reasons for being in Jeffreys was to surprise my dad with a visit as I haven't seen him in five years only to found out from his local pub he has actually moved about 4 months ago.  ??? I then had to adjust my action plan of sleeping arrangements and found the nearest bakpackers. Met some great people there and we partied late into the night.

This guy (cant remember his name) was quite handy with making stuff from rope. Shared some entertaining stories about his times on sea vessels and old navy times

Baviaans2052.jpg

Taught this German girl the fundamentals of drinking brandy and coke  needless to say I think Germans should stick to drinking beer ;)

Baviaans2051.jpg

Baviaans431.jpg

got the fire going and slapped some meat on

Baviaans430.jpg

had a chow and continued loooooong into the night. Tomorrow will be a rest day with me just lazying on the beach :thumleft:

Leaving Jeffreys I drove past here

and followed the railway line

Baviaans2062.jpg

Baviaans2083.jpg

the obligatory railway crossing pics

And after just riding along all the dirt roads I was somewhere in this region

Baviaans2088.jpg

Baviaans2094.jpg

instead I had to settle for this

Baviaans2098.jpg

Passed through Rouxville, very small little town

Baviaans2100.jpg

Baviaans2101.jpg

I headed towards Mount Frere on awesome roads but sadly this is where the pics ends. To my disbelief I realized that the usb charger that i took with is not compatible with my Nikon camera. I also dont have cell with camera with me thus my pictoral diary ended here but my ride and adventure continued. I headed from Mt Frere towards Naude's nek where I slept over in Rodes. Continued from there through the Ntsekeni erea on my way to Harrysmit. Did some nice gravel roads from there to Bloem and then back to Rustenburg. I vowed to myself that I will do this again making sure I have all my camera stuff checked properly before leaving. In hindsight I guess this had to happen just to encourage me to complete this trip a second time but with a hel of a lot more picture.

Until next time, keep dreaming and ride
