After a couple of nasty stories the last few weeks about front wheel blowouts that resulted in crashes, I was wondering what the best way is to prevent this?
Obviously it's more of a risk on tubed wheels as tubeless rims seldom have such a catastrophic tyre failure that the bead breaks and the tyre climbs into the centre of the rim.
Tubes are more prone to sudden blowouts, and tubed rims does not seat the tyre bead as snugly as tubeless rims, resulting in a double whammy ito risk.
Rim locks can solve the tyre climbing off the bead problem to a certain degree.
So can a Tubliss system.
I heard about guys drilling holes through the side of the rim into the tyre bead to fit self-tapping screws.
All three above have their pros and cons.
What say you?
A rear blowout is fark-all. A front blowout can be fatal.
