Bike damaged during service at a bike shop - advice ?

I took my BMW in for a major service and check-up as I heard engine noise at a stage. I was referred to the shop as the manager is a BMW mechanic and he mentioned that the bike looks and sounds okay but a major and some setup needs to be done. 5K+ later they call me to advise that the bike is going for a wash. A while later they call to let me know that the mirror is broken. Replacement at BMW is +- R3000. My insurance excess is also 3K, so that is not an option.
Any advice?
