This is an area down river from the Victoria Falls.

The remnants of the Chinese work site are still there. They did the survey and built the walkway down to the river.

This is the proposed site of a new dam wall. What impact it is going to have on the Vic Falls, Boiling Pot, etc., can only be imagined.

Baronavich and Daskop.

Time to head back.

Bush ablution time for the ladies.

It was getting late, sun was setting with Vic Falls mist in the distance.

We stopped at this massive Baobab tree. The stories that this tree could tell over the centuries that it has been standing here.

I am going to deviate from the RR a bit.

Those of you who have read this RR beginning to end will know that I met a German couple on the Luapula road on my way to Samfya on Lake Bangweulu. Well, they came to visit me in PE. I will expand on that later.

Bernie had left, she works in the Zambian mining industry, so I was going to have to fend for myself.

I went into town, spent some time at the local craft market and then bought some provisions at the Spar, where I ran into the owner of Taonga River Cruises. He invited me to come and have a beer with him and some friends the following day. Back to Loose Goose.

That evening, I had a beer with Baronavich, Small Dog (on the right), and a friend. Made some supper and called it a day.

I went back to the craft market to buy a few items. I was now known to them as Brandon's father. The people there were very friendly and also respected my request that they do not push their wares on me. I was left alone as I went through all the stalls. The effect of Covid on the tourism industry had hit them hard and you could sense their desperation to sell, just to be able to put some food on the table, so I supported as many of them as I could.

Back at Loose Goose, it was laundry time, carefully pack the items I bought and set up everything for that evening's braai.

Off to Taonga.

I had just parked the bike, when an elephant crossed the road which I had ridden in on.

He was heading into the bush, when a taxi passed close by him and he turned around and started heading towards me. Other vehicles wisely backed off. The same taxi, after dropping some people behind me, then drove past the elephant again, which he was not happy about.

Then he turned around and walked off into the bush.

There were a few boats on the river, but apparently a lot less than normal and many boats had not been out for a while. There were also not many tourists on any of these sight-seeing boats.

As I was about to leave, I was convinced to participate in something I avoid like the plaque. Shooters.

I knew it was time to leave.

It turned into a cold night, so I made two fires to keep me warm, braai supper and time for a warm bed.

I had bought oil for Matilda in Lusaka, but Pilatus the BMW agents, did not have an oil filter in stock and I did not have the time to wait for them to order one.

I asked Brian if they could assist in at least changing the oil and cleaning the air filter.

Just after Matilda had been attended too, I got a phone call from Bernie. All of the chalets had been rented out and I had to pack and move, but she was kind enough to contact her friend at Maramba River Lodge and arrange accommodation at a reasonable rate.

While I was packing, this moth arrived and it stayed either on me or my stuff until I left. It was very odd, to say the least.

I saw an unusual Zebra crossing on the way on my way to Maramba.

At Maramba River Lodge, from the deck, I was treated to sightings of Hippos, a crocodile and some elephants.
