Race Dog
R75/6 brat tracker... That's her name for now.
The history...
In July 2012 I bought a R50/2. The bike I always wanted. I don't quite know what happened but I walked away with a R50/2 and a 1976 R75/6.
The R50 is still as I got it.. And will undergo a massive revamp ( staying very much original ) but that's another great story.
So I got the R75 and stuck her in the corner. Outside the house.
The plan? Easy... Strip and sell for spares and make some "return on Investment". So after 6 months of DB, she was allowed in, only to meet her demise. Death by dismantle!
Well... That didn't go well. I approached her with a Phillips, a flat and a 10 spanner... But I couldn't! Rip apart and seperate parts from a bike that surely caused many happy smiles and miles??? How can I?? This is the "thing" that caused me to unleash my creative side and make something great out of something.... Well... Great but expired. Imagine the stories to be told. The great times had every year a disc was slipped into this disc holder.
I really wanted to take her back to original, but after some calculations and a few clicks on motobins website, I sadly realised its economically completely non viable. I'm looking at R50k to R60k at least in parts.
So this is what I did......
Remove ( perfect ) tank, subframe, and seat, and put in a box.
The bike has no elec system, no wiring, no alternator, no diode board, no headlight wires.
She has one piston, and a few other engine parts missing. ...
So I managed to:
Source a set of perfect barrels, pistons, and rings for a R75/6 !!! Thanks chairman meow for the contact!!
I used one of my R100RT seats and shortened her for that single seat beat.
I sourced a new set of headers from hamman before they went bang bang, and after two hours of rond krap in my graadge roof, I found most elec bits off in my "airhead bin".
I bought aftermarket switches, tank, lights etc. so now I'm sitting with a German bike, Japanese and Chinese wiring and switches, and a South African "keen" project manager.
All these parts must talk to one another, and that's where the project part comes in.
This bike will be made a "racer" and I would like to take her to the vintage / classic track days and have some fun.
So the sequence is to mock, fit, cut and paste until I have what I want, then strip and make pretty.
This is definitely my most ambitious project to date and most would consider binning this poor girl. I see potential, and a base model thats better than anything I've ever build.
Everything given a luck of rattle can black as I'm not creative enough to appreciate the "look" with all parts in different colours.
When I'm done, this bike must look factory standard. Non negotiable.
Lets see....
